Van Oord’s Boreas Prepares for Installation of Hollandse Kust West Foundations in Eemshaven

Good news for Van Oord, the Boreas, their largest offshore vessel, will install the monopiles of the Hollandse Kust West wind farm. The ship is currently being prepared for this in the Wagenborg terminal in Eemshaven.

The Boreas, named after the Greek god of the North Wind, is purpose-built for the transport and installation of next-generation wind turbines and foundations. Some of her dimensions and statistics include:

  • 175m long
  • equipped with a crane that can lift more than 3,000t.
  • has a 155m boom, .
  • four giant jackup legs of 126m,
  • the ship can be used in a water depth of up to 70m.
  • ideal for the installation of offshore wind turbines up to 20 MW.
  • the largest offshore installation vessel of its kind.
